German Journey Navigating Language Learning as an Expat Mom in Zurich

My favorite resources for learning German online!

As an expat mom in Zurich, one of the most significant challenges I faced was learning German. Many have reached out to me for advice and references. In this blog post, I will keep you updated on my journey and share some of my favorite resources for learning German online!

  1. Structured Online Programs:
    • Lingoda: For a structured program ranging from level A1.1 to C1.3, I recommend Lingoda. The lessons are thematic, with slides available before the class, and each 60-minute session has a maximum of five students. The minimum package includes four lessons per month.
  2. One-on-One Lessons:
    • Chatterbug: For personalized 45-minute one-on-one lessons, Chatterbug is my go-to. You also have the option to choose the same teacher for each session, allowing for continuity and a more tailored learning experience.
  3. YouTube Channels:
    • Benjamin: Fantastic for preparing for TELC exams. Watch here
    • Deutsch lernen mit der DW: A great resource for learning German. Watch here
    • Easy German: Offers easy-to-follow German lessons. Watch here
    • Julia: Provides a variety of German learning content. Watch here
    • Anja: Engaging lessons for German learners. Watch here
    • Maria: Another excellent channel for enhancing your German skills. Watch here

Learning a new language, especially in a foreign country, can be daunting. However, with the right resources and a bit of determination, it becomes an enriching experience. These online platforms and YouTube channels have been instrumental in my German learning journey in Zurich. Whether you are a fellow expat or just someone looking to pick up a new language, I hope you find these resources as helpful as I have. Viel Erfolg (Good luck) on your language learning journey!
